Thank you to some former and current chemo outreach girls and their invaluable helper and extended family members pulling out some pounds from their purses we have just over 30 bricks for the Hospital .
Grand total to date is 155 bricks
This year SAHODAR UK are aiming to raise the £100,000 to complete the 50 bed hospital that was started in 2017. Work on the project has stalled due to a an issue with government funding. Following Simon and Liza’s most recent visit, we feel compelled to complete the project.
The converted farmhouse hospital is still functioning well, but falls short of what is required.
Currently the 50 bed hospital is a skeleton frame work waiting to be fleshed out! The money raised will enable this to happen.
We are challenging people to give £1 per brick - £5 and £10 bricks also available. Gift aiding will increase the value of your gift.
So be a part of this challenge - pledge £1 and find a friend or family member to do the same.
HUGE Thanks!! If you have not received personal thanks because we have no email or contact details for you, please accept this note as your “Thank You!”
Yes, these thanks ARE genuine, and come from a very humbled team. We thought we were ambitious trying to raise £5,000 toward relief. Following internet exposure thanks to Jenny E, and your generosity, we have sent between £40 & £50,000 to date, and with the International Nepal Fellowship UK coming on board with another £45,000...... WOW! “O Ye of little faith”. Yes, we are humbled indeed. And proud, because SAHODAR Nepal has, as a result, become an NGO of significant importance, able to help people, not just in Garambeshi, but in 16 Village Districts of Lamjung, thanks to Government promotion. “You Christians don’t just talk about it, you get things done” is one official’s comment. We are now able to access many thousands with help. No deductions: every penny given goes to the front line. Even our National Westminster Bank made no transfer charges.
So, what has been done?
News from the front line is thin as people are busy with the nitty-gritty of relief and the monsoon has been in full swing. Mutley Baptist Church have another team going out next month, as does Dentaid, and 5 members are SUK Trustees. Their key task is to go to the front line, encourage & support folk there, explore what is being done in Garambeshi & further up the valley and report back. Please pray for them: David, Graham, Kate, Liza and Michael, and the other team members, Pam, Becky and leader Andy, together with Simon and his Dentaid team. We will update you with their findings: there is a professional photographer with them... housing, counselling, trek trails, forestry, goats, education, medical... so many things to explore: watch this space!
Key developments known have been:
Dr Shiva is now resident in Garambeshi, able to offer full medical services for the first time. Already at least one life has been saved by medical intervention otherwise unavailable.
Hom is swamped with work, so we have agreed to support an assistant for two years at a cost of £4,000 p.a.
INF UK have agreed to grant £45,000 p.a. for two years, hugely enhancing the potential of SN.
Red cards (people with unliveable homes) should entitle holders to £90 towards temporary housing and £1235 in three instalments for permanent rebuilding. Plans are afoot for earthquake resistant housing: something previously notable by its absence. The kit, with transport and instruction in how to lay proper courses of stone/brickwork costs £300, good value for relatively secure family home we think you will agree. Not all red cards have been honoured, something SN will pursue with vigour. The picture shows a local representative distributing SAHODAR-approved & stamped Red Cards. The right to a card was decided by Ward representatives using SN’s detailed survey.
Fund raising continues as the need is ongoing: recent events have been a “Fun Day” and an Auction of Promises run by Owen & Plymouth Business Network, which raised over £2,000 with money still coming in. Needless to say, all donations welcome.
We firmly promise to forward all monies direct to known and trusted folk at the front line, without any deductions, all transfer costs covered.
