Exciting New Project!!

While Liza and Simon were in Nepal, they were able to find out about an exciting new project that has been proposed, which will enable the SAHODAR Hospital to become self sustaining in the future, as well as providing employment for local people.
SAHODAR Nepal already own a piece of land, presently unused, that would be suitable for growing lemons and ginger. Lemons are great because the local monkey population don't like their sour taste! There is also a market for them.
To enable this to happen, the land will need to be fenced off and prepared. In addition, a small dwelling will be built for the caretaker who would live there. If this project can be started in the New Year, then the ground should be prepared at just the right time for planting 1000 trees in the summer. The trees will take 3 years to produce their first crop, but in the meantime, ginger planted around the trees will produce a cash crop more quickly.
Funds have already been donated for the first stage, which is amazing. The cost of the lemon trees will still need covering. 1000 trees at £10 each would provide the £10,000 needed for this. Would anyone like to sponsor a lemon tree?

So pleased that Liza and Simon Crewe were able to visit Nepal as part of a longer trip away. They managed to catch up with our friends in Pokhara and visit the hospital in Garambesi (see photo).  We're looking forward to sharing all their latest news once they are recovered from their travels!

Becky, one of Sahodar UK's trustees and current Chair, has started training for her first ever marathon! Pictured here with her husband, Graham, she took part in the January Jaunt 10K to start the year as she means to go on. She joined the Plymstock Road Runners in 2023 and succeeded in her aim to complete a half marathon. Now, having been fortunate enough to be given her running club's ballot place for the London Marathon, on April 21st this year, she has decided to seize the opportunity to raise funds for SAHODAR UK.  Please keep your eyes out for her fundraising page to appear in the next few weeks and support if you can.

We are very pleased to hear that, after some further investigation, the old x-ray machine has been able to be repaired and is now back in operation. See photos below.
In addition, a new operating table and light are on order! Will post some photos of these once they have arrives and are set up. Great news!

On 25th January, John, our SUK treasurer, and his wife Beverly are visiting Nepal again for the first time since before lockdown! They will be visiting Garambesi from the 3rd to the 7th of February, staying on the new hospital complex! We are looking forward to being able to share fresh stories of what has been happening there in recent days, along with some up to date photos. They are also looking forward to hopefully visiting some of the local schools and seeing what progress has been made. Please pray for protection as they travel and that they will be a source of encouragement to the SAHODAR Nepal team. Thank you!

Much has happened since the last post . The 55 bedded hospital is fully functioning and has been used for the treatment of Covid patients during the pandemic .
Picture
This has been made possible by all your generous donations and fund raising activities .

One of these amazing activities was  a valiant cycle ride from Lands End to John O'Groats by Helen .

She has kindly offered to talk about her Trip at Mutley Baptist on May 9th . Time to be announced nearer the time .
There is also a Coffee and Craft morning at Emmanuel Church on the 14th June . This is a general information and update on the works of Sahodar Nepal. Again a reminder will be posted nearer the time . Ollie the octopus has found a new home but we still have the beautiful crochet blanket and  two patchwork ones available. John still has some Jams which need to be eaten before he starts bottling this years produce. His jams are highly sort after.
