Where is Garambesi? |
Nepal is small mountainous country sandwiched between the giants of China and India. It's inland position and mountainous environment contributes to the difficulties and high expense of transporting all goods in and out of the country. Nepal has few natural resources, which contributes to it being listed as the 13th poorest nation in the world. This poverty is quite apparent, once you travel outside the well known tourist centres of Kathmandu, Pokhara and the well-used trekking areas. Garambesi is a remote village in the district of Lamjung, in the southern foothills of the Annapurna range of the Himalayas. Until recently the only access was on foot along a track, but in recent years a mud road has linked it to a tarmac road several miles away. Or you can take an hours walk up and down steep hills and cross the mighty Marsyangdi River on a typical Nepali suspension footbridge.
