The local authority has agreed enough money to complete the hospital building . This will not include the interior or the road to the hospital but it is such wonderful news .Fundraising will continue in order to complete the hospital and equip it. The constuction workers have arrived on site despite poor weather conditions and a bridge being washed away . A huge thank you to all who have donated as you have helped to make this happen .The two photographs below were sent today as the construction workers commenced work .
A Big Thank You to everyone who has continued to support the work of SAHODAR through prayer and giving during the time of Lockdown. We are now able to share a photo of the completed church/community building, all freshly painted. You may notice the shoe racks on either side of the door for people to leave their footwear before entering. The building has only been used once so far; the COVID-19 Lockdown has since prevented people from meeting in groups, but we will hopefully see pictures of it being used, once the crisis has passed. While we have not been able to have any fundraising activities involving groups of people meeting up, we have continued to sell ‘virtual bricks’ and also had a Lent Challenge on Facebook, encouraging people to give whatever they would usually spend on the ‘treats’ they were giving up for that period. We have also been enlisting the creative skills of some of our supporters to knit Christmas Tree Bunting - intended to be displayed and sold at an event at the Royal William Yard, Plymouth, on 25th-27th September. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved. The craft fair we were planning for July has been put on hold for now, but we are considering alternative ways of selling work on-line. Since the completion of the church/community building in March, we have been able to send a further £12,840 towards the hospital build - over halfway to our original target of £23,000. Amazing! This amount will be doubled with the Nepali Government match funding. Additional funding for salaries amounting to £4,325 has also been sent this year. The need for better health provision in Garambesi has never been greater; Dr Shiva and his team continue to serve the local community as best they can with the existing facilities until the new build can be continued. Another way of giving at no extra cost to you when you make purchases from Amazon is by registering at smile.amazon.co.uk and selecting Sahodar UK as your benefitting charity - Amazon will donate 0.5% of the total value of qualifying orders. We’ve received £26 through this scheme already this year! A big thank you for the generous gifts still arriving in such difficult cicumstances . We have £11,781.16 towards the hospital building . A further gift has also enabled Sahodar to help with wages. Although the number of Covid 19 cases in Nepal have not been particularly high at this stage, there is limited travel, as the country, in following others is resticting movement to contain what cases they have. Dr Shiva is separated from his family as he cares for the Garambeshi comunity. The Hospital is coping with the number of patients who present with a fever and as yet they have had no one with the Covid 19 virus. There is some concern as they lack PPE (personal protective equipment) for their staff.
Over here we are continuing with our tree knitting. Well done Barbara! (See below). The pattern is available from Becky, Holly or me if you wish to have a go . The bought bricks are building up we have near 9.000. Still some way to go . Thank you all for your generosity. We still hope to make 23.000 by July . Two dates for the future . July 25th a Craft Fare at Emmanuel Church .More details to come . September 25-27 Royal William Yard selling the displayed knitted Tree Garlands. We have a pattern if you wish to try your hand at knitting these little trees . A big thankyou to Martin Storey for kindly giving his permission to use this pattern .
First lets say thank you to Dom and Sarah for the bricks bought this week .Once our accountant has had time to recover from jet lag we will be able to update the number of bricks bought .
On the face book page we have announced that if we raise £23,000 by July there are funds to match this by the local Nepali government . How about a Lent challenge ! Instead of giving up something give something . The cost of a cup of coffee, chocolate bar, glass of wine or beer a week and pop this in the brick fund . Many thanks to the Laithwaite team and also the Mulligans and Emmy from the ukulele carers group for their generous donations . Sue for her continued support and we wish her son Matt well in his school presentation tomorrows he has chosen Sahodar as his charity. The church community building has been funded but the hospital has still some way to go .
2,750 bricks so far
Thank you to Jane and John in memory of your brother Jim. Many thanks also go to friends and family who continue to support us by buying bricks. Every pound donated gets us closer to our final target. Much fun was had at the Emmanuel Church fair on Saturday. We sold 39 items of our 2,020 goal raising £60. The cold weather worked in our favour bring people in to look at the tasty cakes. Thank you to some former and current chemo outreach girls and their invaluable helper and extended family members pulling out some pounds from their purses we have just over 30 bricks for the Hospital .
Grand total to date is 155 bricks This year SAHODAR UK are aiming to raise the £100,000 to complete the 50 bed hospital that was started in 2017. Work on the project has stalled due to a an issue with government funding. Following Simon and Liza’s most recent visit, we feel compelled to complete the project.
The converted farmhouse hospital is still functioning well, but falls short of what is required. Currently the 50 bed hospital is a skeleton frame work waiting to be fleshed out! The money raised will enable this to happen. We are challenging people to give £1 per brick - £5 and £10 bricks also available. Gift aiding will increase the value of your gift. So be a part of this challenge - pledge £1 and find a friend or family member to do the same. |
